Year 6 boys football finals (Tier 3 and 4)
Published 25/03/24Following on from the girls recent success it was the boys turn to try and impress at the ‘Hive’ football ground. On the 13th March Mr Deanus and Mr Gurteen took 11 players to a tier 3 and 4 football tournament.
The tournament consisted of 3 leagues of 4 or 5 teams. The 3 top of the league teams would progress to the semi - finals along with the best runner up.
Our first match was against Belmont school. The children made an excellent start and applied a lot of pressure, which included lots of shots that just missed the target. We finally broke the deadlock with an excellent free kick from Tylan who found the top corner. The second half was a completely different game. Belmont started adding pressure to our defence with a number of corners and headed chances that just went wide or were saved by Shaan in goal. In literally the last seconds of the match Belmont equalised with an excellent passing move to find the bottom corner. The final whistle was straight after kick off and the match ended 1-1.
Our second match was against Norbury school. Again the boys created lots of chances but just couldn’t find the net in the first half. We finally scored in the second half following a mix up in their defence. Alexandra latched on to this and powered home the low finish past the goalkeeper. That goal calmed the boys down and they quickly scored a second goal. Alexandra turned the last defender and despite being fouled the ref allowed the advantage for Raphael to finish the chance. The match ended 2-0 to Roxeth!
The last match vs Stanburn was always going to be the toughest match. They had some excellent players and collectively were the strongest in our league. Roxeth looked a bit nervous at the beginning and conceded an early goal which was closely followed by another goal from a good strike. After 2-0 down the boys started to forget about the team they were playing and begun to create some chances themselves, which was good to see. The second half saw Stanburn score another two goals to win the match 4-0.
This meant that Roxeth had won one, drew one and lost one. We found out that the boys had finished second in their league which was brilliant achievement but unfortunately did not finish as the highest runner up. Nevertheless, I was proud of all the boys for their amazing effort, behaviour and resilience throughout the whole tournament. A special mention to Shaan in goal for making some brilliant saves and Gareth for excellent defending and battling. Also thank you to those parents who came to support!
Well done to the following boys in Year 6: Jian, Raphael, Taylan, Ishaaq, Shaan, Alexandru, Zavi, Arhaan, Gareth, Arjun and Ano.

Girls football Finals league day 21st Feb
Published 25/03/24After winning the previous league the girls football team went to Hive (Barnet FC) to play in the finals on a very wet and windy day. All the teams that finished top of their league had been grouped together so the standard was going to be high and competitive.
Our first match was against St John’s. The girls picked up from where they let off with a solid and disciplined performance. Haneen managed to get a only goal of the match by running down the wing and sneaking the effort in the near post. We continued to defend well and created more chances. The match finished with a 1-0 win, which was a great start and boosted our confidence.
The second match was against Grimsdyke school. The rain continued to pour down but this did not affect the children’s effort and motivation to get a positive result. Grimsdyke scored first with a break away goal and excellent finish. The game continued to be closed. Rafa caused problems upfront and managed to get us a free kick from 20 yards out. Haneen stepped up and blasted it in the top left corner to equalise. The match finished 1-1 so we remained unbeaten.
The last game for the league was against St John Fisher. This was the toughest test that we had faced all season. They were strong in all departments and despite the girls battling we lost the match 2-0. Some excellent defending from Tamryn, Hayley and Iqra kept the score down.
This meant that Roxeth had done enough to reach the semi finals which was a great achievement. For this match we faced St Teresa’s who had a very good player in midfield and another one upfront. However, proceeded to be another very close match. Unfortunately, the forward managed to break free of our defence on one occassion and smashed the ball past Sophia, who had made some outstanding saves in this match to try and keep us in the game. We lost the match 1-0 but Mr Gurteen and I were very proud of the girls.
The last match was a third place play off against St Georges. The girls continued to try their best. We went 1-0 down following a good finish from their forward in the first half. Despite this disappointment the girls showed tremendous resilience to draw level again from a great strike from Haneen. The match finished as a draw.
So overall the girls were the joint 3rd best primary school across all the schools in Harrow which was a wonderful achievement. A special mention to Lena who played brilliantly throughout the tournament and was a terrific defender battling until the last minute.
Congratulations to the following girls who all did brilliantly: Heneen, Lena, Saanvi, Rafa, Sofia, Aminah, Iqra, Tamryn, Hayley.
